Caminito del Rey
Caminito del Rey (in English: The King's little pathway) is a well-known trail
running along the walls of the Desfiladero de los Gaitanes gorge, suspended
more than 100 m above the ground. The impressive narrow pass where the
Gualdalhorce river runs between big plates of stratified limestone offers
breathtaking views and a thrilling adventure. If you want to hike there you
need to buy tickets online in advance.
The Caminito del Rey is a 50-minute drive from La Posada del Torcal.
Antequera, the City
Antequera is home to nearly 80% of the cultural heritage in the Malaga province. The very first Iberian inhabitants left the spectacular and well-preserved dolmens of Menga behind (which are around 5,000 years old and made up of megaliths weighing more than 180 tonnes). Step back into Roman and Moorish times with a visit to the glorious Ephebus and the Alcazaba. With its 26 churches, beautiful squares and stately homes, Antequera comes highly recommended. It is just a 25-minute drive away.
El Torcal Mountains
As the name suggests, the El Torcal Mountains are right on La Posada del Torcal's doorstep. The El Torcal area, Andalusia's first Natural Park Reserve, offers you the opportunity of going for spectacular walks, hiking, climbing, horse riding or mountain biking surrounded by impressive karst rock formations that date back more than 150 million years to the Jurassic period. The information centre and small museum situated near the parking area provide an interesting insight into the park's unique flora and fauna. There is also a good cafe. Orchid enthusiasts will be captivated by the 30 varieties of the plant growing in the park.
The information centre is a mere 15-minute drive away.
Fuente de Piedra Lagoon
Fuente de Piedra Lagoon is a haven for birds, with over 170 different species having been recorded here. Apart from its abundant aquatic birds, it is well known for its flamingo population, the second largest colony of these birds in Europe after the French Camargue region and the only inland breeding site on the continent. In spring flamingos flock here in their thousands to reproduce, attracted by the water's high salt content and the fact that it is shallow. During the flamingos' stay a visit to the lagoon is a must for guests of La Posada del Torcal. Fuente de Piedra is a 45-minute drive away.
Wolf Park (Lobo Park Antequera)
European wolves, Timber wolves, Iberian wolves and Alaska Tundra wolves live together in Lobo Park's 40-hectare nature reserve. With huge enclosures closely resembling the wolves' natural habitats, the park also houses other animal species and a rich array of exotic plants and trees.
Your visit to Lobo Park can be twice the fun if you ride one of the purebred horses living in the reserve.
Lobo Park is a 20-minute drive from our Bed & Breakfast.
In the surroundings of La Posada del Torcal there are many possibilities for beautiful hiking trails. Of course, the Torcal mountains and the Caminito del Rey are the best known places for beautiful hikes. But you will also find beautiful trails in the surroundings of our Bed & Breakfast.
